Izakaya

I learned something new tonight. A Japanese sake den with food is called an izakaya. It was the Rev. Shayla's birthday and we drove bravely beyond the city of Portland to Hillsboro. The ladies knew about an izakaya called Syun. It was so delicious. Lots of grilled fish, sushi, raw vegetables and sake. I didn't think I liked sake, but this must have been the good stuff.

  1. MMM gotta get out there and try it.

Some in-town izakaya we like are Biwa (near Burnside, close-in), and Yakuza (NE).

Tanuki is a new place off Glisan on NW 21st, which we haven't tried it yet.

  2. I know the place as the "Sushi Library." Supposedly, it was once Hillsboro's central branch. Definitely a great spot and worth the long drive in from Portland.

  3. oh yeah it was so fun!

there's another delicious izakaya in the 'burbs called Yuzu, across from a Petco in a strip mall.

I love love Biwa's ramen and chijimi. Highly recommended.
